What is the difference between the Charleston Lake Association (CLA) and the Charleston Lake Environmental Association (CLEA)?

The Charleston Lake Association is the oldest Lake Association in Canada. It was originally founded in Aug 1890 primarily as a rate payers association. In 1916, the organization changed its name to the Charleston Lake Association and adopted the motto: “For the improvement and protection and interests of Charleston Lake “. It later incorporated as a “not-for-profit” organization with the primary mandate of protecting the natural, physical, and social values that contribute to the “quality of life” for Charleston Lake residents and visitors.

In 1999, an affiliate organization, the Charleston Lake Environmental Association (CLEA) was incorporated as a registered charitable organization, to focus specifically on environmental projects on the lake and within its watershed.

Charleston Lake Plan

In 2006, CLA and CLEA created the Charleston Lake Plan. This plan is based on the wealth of information gathered about the water quality, fishery, ecology, traditions of use and recreation, history of cottaging, lake management and all other realms that could be brought to light.
CLA and CLEA continue to work towards implementing the action items identified in the 2006 plan to preserve and enhance our beautiful lake for future generations.
