WATER LEVELS

The Portage Power Company regulates Charleston Lake water levels.  The Outlet Dam was closed April 28th with only minimal flow (1 cm) to Wiltsie Creek.  The current level is 85.77 m (3 ft 9 in).  With the forecasted 28 mm of precipitation, we expect to reach the May 1st target level of 85.83 m



PUBLIC ACCESS AED’S ON THE LAKE (Automated External Defibrillator)

The Charleston Lake Association has paid and installed two AEDs (Automated external defibrillator) for public use that will be located at Lakeline Lodge and at Whispering Pines from May to October. 


CHARLESTON LAKE PROVINCIAL PARK EXPANSION – CLA COMMENTS

CLA and CLEA have submitted a response to the Province of Ontario with regards to the expansion of Charleston Lake Provincial Park.  The response is as follows:

CHARLESTON LAKE SUMMER CAMPS

Nature and Adventure camps are full.  There is still room for the Sports Camp (week of July 20-24)


CHARLESTON LAKE PROVINCIAL PARK EXPANSION – Request for Comments

You may have heard, the Province of Ontario is proposing to expand Charleston Lake Provincial Park by adding Crown lands directly east of the park under the Provincial Parks and Conservation Reserve Act, 2006 (PPCRA).  Details of the proposal and associated maps are available at: https://ero.ontario.ca/notice/025-0031  

Members of the public have until April 20th, 2026 to submit their comments to The Environmental Registry of Ontario. 

The Charleston Lake Association is also currently evaluating this proposal and welcomes input from its members (prior to April 18th) at: info@charlestonlakeassociation.ca


DOUG HALE MEMORIAL GOLF TOURNAMENT – Save The Date

Every year, the Charleston Lake Environmental Association holds a golf tournament at Cedar Valley Golf club.  The date is Saturday August 8th.  You don’t have to be a great golfer as it is a 4-person scramble. Registration will open beginning of April.

SUMMER CAMP – Registration is now open

Every year, Charleston Lake Association holds three summer camps for kids, aged 5-10.  The Camps are held at Sand Bay County Park from 9am – 4pm. The cost is $100 per camp.

The Camp dates are: 

July 6-10 Nature Camp: Games, crafts and water activities with an emphasis on the environment and outdoors.

July 13-17 Adventure Camp: Activities which encourage and allow children to explore and experience outdoor adventures.

July 20-24 Sports Camp: Sports camp emphasizes land and water sports to develop fitness and fun.

 

INFORMATION CENTRE MANAGER AND YOUTH CAMP COUNSELLOR – JOB OPPORTUNITY

CLA  AND CLEA are hiring a summer student to manage our Information Centre and perform the duties of camp counsellor during the 3 weeks of summer camp.  The application deadline is May 1st, 2026. For more information or to apply, please click here.

 

CLA SUMMER CAMP COUNSELLORS AND LIFE GUARD POSITIONS 

We are accepting applications for Camp Counsellors for Charleston Lake Summer Camps. 

Camps run for three consecutive weeks: July 6th, July 13th and July 20th from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm at Sand Bay County Park, Charleston Lake. 

Successful candidates will be 16 years or older and have experience working with children. Remuneration is $18/hour.

We are also accepting applications for a Lifeguard. The Lifeguard needs to be fully registered with a Canadian Lifeguard Certification.  Pay rate is $21/hr
